Comparison with Bolt-Action
over 6 years ago – Sat, Dec 16, 2017 at 04:53:13 PM

Hi all,

many of you have asked me to post some pictures of our figures next to Bolt-Action ones, which I promised I would but never got around to do so far...

Well, today it's the 73rd anniversary of the beginning of the Ardennes offensive so I thought I'd get off my ass and do it, got myself a sprue of plastic Bolt Action US airborne, quickly glued a couple together and snapped a couple of shots... apologies for the missing weapons but hopefully these should give you a good idea of how they compare anyway...

please note that the pictures are of pre-production print figures which are not yet been cleaned, final production figures will not have all those little pieces of support stuck all over them, fear not! :)

Also note that our range include some realistic variation in height and heft, and these two guys happens to be the tallest of the lot, basically any other figure is one or two millimeters shorter, not that it matters much I think, but I thought I'd mention it anyway! :)

Cheers!

more pain in the dice...
over 6 years ago – Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 03:17:04 PM

Hi all,

not exactly what I was hoping to post about, but I just got this:

Hi Claudio

I'm very sorry about this, there is going to be a lead time issue.

I put the order in over the weekend, now normal lead time is 25 -30 days for the order.

When I spoke to them two weeks ago, they did not tell me the lead time had doubled, and that the lead time was normal.

About half an hour I messaged you last night, I got another email from them telling me I may not be able to get the order sent until March due to Chinese New Year, and that they are very busy.

I rang them just now, they said it may be possible to do some of the order in spare time, if they have it, but they are already doing a double shift. So they cannot guarantee it.

So I have told them to prioritize your order over my dice.

I am very sorry about this, it is a lack of communication from them to me. They did not tell me that there was a production issue.

I feel terrible about this, also considering the issues we have had already.

What would you like to do?

Once again I apologize.

Regards

Adam Brooker

DICE of WAR

http://diceofwar.com.au/

Now Adam as kindly offered to post here to apologize, something I'm very grateful but unfortunately won't speed things up. In theory we could go somewhere else but quite apart that DICE of WAR dice are the best I've seen, if I restart the ordering process with another manufacturer now we would end up getting it even later so there is no point really...
On the plus side, given we won't be able to start packing until March, all those in UK or there around who plan to go to Salute next year will have the option to pick up their rewards there... :)

In the meantime work has started on the new figures:

please keep in mind this is still work in progress, the final pose will be more dynamic + a lot of work still needed on this figure!

I was hoping to post images of the production figures by now but we're still waiting for the masters: the first shipment was defective, the replacements they sent us got lost and then the last (third!) shipment has now been delayed by snow apparently... things are never as easy as they seem, are they? But we are still within contingency times so I do not expect actual delays on those...
Everything else is also on schedule, most terrain masters are 99% done and should start production shortly, will post some pic for those too as soon as possible, stay tuned!

cheers!

Choose your dice!
over 6 years ago – Mon, Nov 20, 2017 at 06:27:15 PM

Have a number of engraved dice pre-approved from Adam at DICE of WAR, so it's now time to choose which one you prefer!

There are three possible sets to choose from, each include the two dice for the first wave starter packs due for February and also two more for the 2nd wave starter packs that will be available later. However what you choose now will also set the standard to which all other divisional dice will be made in the future!

To vote, please just post a comment below this update. Votes cast in any other way will not be counted!

Option 1 - dice with engraved actual divisional logo

.

.

Option 2 - dice with engraved actual divisional logo

.

.

Option 3 - dice with engraved faction logo

need to have these started asap to avoid delays, so voting will end on Sunday 26th - votes will be counted immediately and the order placed on Monday 27th. All votes cast after that will be void I'm afraid...

Ready? May the best one win!

Things actually moving under the cover of silence...
over 6 years ago – Wed, Nov 15, 2017 at 10:13:17 AM

Apologies for the long silence, been doing not exactly exiting things for the most part (like getting quotes for printed boxes kind of things) until now... I need to get all these sorted first, because they have long working times and we have no control whatsoever on that, so I want to make sure all the third party components are ready or at least all set ASAP to minimize the risk of delays. The more interesting part, like models, we do ourselves so I'm more relaxed about it... :)
Anyway the first batch of 3D prints for the production figures is on the way to us as I type, so from now on should be able to post some interesting stuff on a more regular base!

cheers!

Bad news for the dice...
over 6 years ago – Sun, Oct 22, 2017 at 03:19:09 PM

Sorry about the long silence, things are progressing well, however there are lots of small technical issues that need to be fixed at this stage, this is expected and we are moving fast through all of it, except when they are out of our control... regrettably one of such glitch just emerged, I got this from Adam at DICEOFWAR :

> Hi Claudio
>
> Bad news, I just asked about getting the designs stamped and they said
> the stamping machine is broken and I don't think they plan on
> repairing it.
>
> They only seem to want to do engraved and printed dice, no stamping.
> This is very annoying and with no warning.
>
> This is bad news for me as well as I will not be able to get the Red
> Star dice, the Wehrmacht, the 82nd and Hungarian dice done anymore (I
> will probably have to get them printed now).
>
> Im very sorry about this, this is news to me as well, otherwise I
> would have told you straight up and not wasted time with this.
>
> So what do you want to do now? Engrave? or print?

Unfortunately DICEOFWAR was the only service I found that was able to do the two color process, no other company does it because they said It's too hard to match the two color properly...

So we do have two choices left now: engraved or printed dice.

printing allow more colors but is flat, engraved only allow one color.

Please do pop to http://diceofwar.com.au/ and take a look... (the soviet red star with the white outline on the front page is the one they can't do anymore)

Printed will allow to do colored logos like the image attached, but personally at this point I'd prefer the engraved ones in only one color...

Price-wise printed ones cost more so there would have to be only two included as originally planned. Engraved ones in one color are cheaper to make so we would include more, up to the same value (probably 3, but possibly 4)

I will wait to take a decision after everyone has had a chance to give his opinion and ask any question he may have, but please let's do this quick because it will take a while to make them and I wouldn't want to get too close to the holiday season for having them shipped... nasty things are known to happen when the global postal system is overworked... ;)
